PFC Needed £24,000.00 t0 continue its Transequality Project in 2011
We've received £1200 to date (Nov.1st 2011) so we still got a lot to do, so why not …
WHY WE NEED DONATIONS in 2011
Since its formation in 1992, Press for Change has received and spent a mere £42,000 in donations. That makes us almost certainly one of the most frugal lobby groups in existence — operating for eighteen years on the equivalent of just 40 pence per annum for each of the people we represent. In 2011 PFC needs to raise at least £24.000 -- our biggest ever request to the Trans Community.
That is why we are asking YOU to help us provide a service of real value to All TRANS PEOPLE.

The money we need is made up as follows:
The TransEquality Project
The project has received partial funding of up to £32,000 per annum from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, until March 2012
However, this will not meet the costs and PFC has committed to raising a further £24,000 to support this project by meeting the cost of rent, utilities, stationary, travel and other costs.
Ironically, the more successful we are, the more people, businesses and officials want to consult with us — and the more expenses we need to meet for travel, postage, web services, etc…
Without your donations this project will not be sustainable.
General Costs
With the money donated to PFC we’ve achieved changes in legal protection and support for trans people which were all at one time considered impossible dreams. Legislation and judicial case law affecting employment rights, the right to NHS treatment, and the Gender Recognition Act have all been shaped by the influence of PFC lobbying and advising politicians and courts. That work goes on to influence the the kind of protections which the Government intends to add in the field of Goods and Services, and through the forthcoming Single Equality Bill.
Press for Change has also campaigned effectively for changes in media attitudes towards trans people and has defined the modern agenda for debating the issues for healthcare reform. Every day we are in some kind of contact with civil servants, national agencies and broadcasters arguing a sound case for the all-round improvement in the way that trans people are supported and enabled to live productive discrimination-free lives.
Most of this work is carried out by volunteers and involves travel and other out-of-pocket expenditure — all of which needs to be found from somewhere. Our web site, for instance, demands a professional grade server to cope with the massive demand for our resources, every day of the year. We are economising - you will notice for example, that this website is built on the free Microsoft Office system, and will be hosted for free through the Microsoft Office Live business server. That is until the traffic gets too big, and we have to pay for separate hosting, which we know will happen very soon after we have launched these pages.
Our base costs are in the region of £6,000 per annum - its not a fortune, probably only about 50p per year for every trans person in the UK.
Lets be frank - at least half of this last amount is currently coming out of the pocket of one person, one of our VPs and this is not sustainable. We now need everyone to do a little bit to keep our service running.
